CENTRAL SCHOOL ENTERTAINMENT.

The entertainment given- by the pupils of the Central School iu the Theatre Royal last evening was an unqualified success. AU the items were carefully selected and the children so admirably trained that everything went well from start to finish. Needles* to say the building was picked to suffocation, the heat being almost unbearable. The merit of the various items on tho programme was, liowiiver, to great that they fully counterbalanced any discomfort from that cause. Mr. Dempsfly and bis staff are to be heartily congratulated on the manner in which the children were trained, the infants for whose training we understand Miss Arrow was responsible, being especially worthy of p'uise. Right through tho programme it was evident no pains had been spared. In tho singing there was melody and sweetness vhile the clearness cf enunciation waa remarkable and showed the pains taken in trainiug. Id fheactionsonss, the various duQibbeil and other exercises, the tinw wns iu nearly every ins'anca perfect, wbile the happy faces of the children showed how lu-artily they entered into the spirit of the work in a most, pleasing manner. Where all did so well it would bo unfair t:> pariiculacise the items, and indeed it would be very hard to do so, as a feature of the entertainment was the evenness and all round gond quality of the various items, Tho " Alabama Ocon " was a real gem from a musical standpoint. The " Jingle Bells" w.is one of the prettiest items. The two youug ladies who sang " I don't want to piny in J your back yard" should have a future. The Indian-club drill of the senior girls was vary accurately performed, while the physical drill of the cadets was a very meritorious puformatiGf. Th l ) musical items wtre also very nicely given. The following is the full programme, quite a number of the I 'ttms receiving well deserved encores:! —Overture.
