rra ran AssooiAtiojr. WAriABA, March 5. a. man named John Cross died suddenly yesterday evening at Hrenui. Deceased was fishing at tbe time. Auckland, March 5. At the asylum, the coroner held an inquest on the body of Heinrich Pdhlen, ■a criminal lunatic. Ur. Be»tti« dpposed that deceased bad shown no nymptomß of insanity, and that tbe cause of death was raniln decay. A verdict was returned accordingly. After the verdict, the coroner laid beforr. the jury a copy of the inquisition held bv himself in tbe Waikato on the body of Patrick Corcoran in November, 1897, resulting in a verdict of wilful murder ugainst Pohlen, who shot Corcoran with a fowling piece, causing instant death. He was tried for murder, and upon medical evidence, was acquitted on the ground of insanity. At tbe inquest held at Opotiki on the body of John dimming, found in tbe river, the jury returned a verdict of found drowned. Deceased, who- had only one leg, was in impoverished c'rcumstance?, and in receipt of chtritaWe , aid, which had lately been reduced, and ■e is supposed to have committed suicide while in a st»te of depression.
