DISPUTATIONS. Sia Joseph Ward arrived from the notth yesterday Dooming,and proceeded by the express tnin to Eltham, *henoe he drove to, Opunake to open the new post office.

The Mayor (Mr K. Dockril), Mr Connett, and the Town Clerk waited on Sir Joseph Ward with reference to the land taken from the Borough reserve at Ngaire for the Toko railway. The Borough Council had be«n offered value on the bisis of the letting value of 1886, which the Council did not consider fair. He thought it would be just to l»t the matter be fixed by arbitration.

At present the Council could not proceed with the abattoir question, as the site came under the Enabling Act passed last session, and the Public Trustee had power over it. | Mr. Oonnett, as chairman of the | Harbour Board, brought the question of the Railway Department removing more earth from the Mt. Eliot reserve before the attention of the Minister. Mr, Gonnett pointed out that the Department had not anything like jsn equivalent of earth as compared with the stone the Department had taken out of the Harbour B wd's quarries. Sir Joseph Ward said he would inquire into the matter, it h»ing understood that the R<ii«rey Department would require an additional 8000 yards! of earth io cmmction with the reclamation wot ks.
