A CARNIVAL OF MELODY. In another column we publish the programme to be given at the first of , Mdllo. Dolores' conc«rts on Tuesday , fvoning, the 25th February. The visit of this talented 'ady marks an epoch in local musical history. The prog-arame includes twelve fongs by Mademoiselle, ( tastefully selected from several centuries and many nations, English being ( nscessarily predominant. Song recitilof this nature, given by a thoioujjhly f competent artiste like our coming visitor, are, from many aspects, almost I an ideal entertainment. Their educational value is considerable, and they ! afford genuine pleasure to those who . attend. Listening to the concord of ' sweet sounds, the two hours pa*i like rn*gic, and in s'ich a varied programme ' there is sure 10 be some item which i appeals to each auditor, and this in s nuasure must account for the Divine I Dolores' wonderful witchery, not only in attracting immense audiences, but I also in retiiuisg their interest, and arousing enthusiasm to such a pitch, ' that tbey are loath to let the fair singer retire, as witness the following < clipped from a Brisbane notice: — " Mademoiselle had now sung a great ' number of songs, but still the audience hud the ' front' to ask fur encores; and, more amazing still, they get them With a ready acquiesence utterly uutinged with self-c mrciousness or attention, the singer responded to eve. y vtc<\\], nnd sang time and sgain ni'h the wonderful voice that never got tired. Finally, the star, to her own accotn paniman*-, Buig ' Home, Sweat Home,' and it was the urns'-, touching rendition of that pathetic little song ever heard in Brisbane." Mr Neweli's piano solos are by no means mak'i-weights. lie is a player of sterling merit. A firm, crisp touch, clearness of articulation, and an intelli- ! gent perception are among the valutble gifts he possesses, and ho is a particularly skilful accompanist.
