Insurance shares are in demand. The New Zealand Accident Insurance Company's Balance Shoet has been issued, and shows an increase ef nearly £ISOO in premiums received, being mainly due to the Workers' Compensation Act. The directors issue 30,000 additional shares paid np tD 10.= per share, each holder of the old issue being entitled to one and a half of the new shares. Present holders will therefore hold 2| shares at a cost of £3 ISs. Waihi shares have firmed
The Annual Meeting of the Monowai] Company has been held, and it appears that rather more than half the new issue of shares was taken up, sufficient, however, for the Directors to consider themselves justified in going on with the new works. The prospects of the mine are excellent, but we are elad to s?e the directors are putting in a low level te further te«t the large reef before erecting the new battery. i Dredging has been slack owing to the igfi rivers in Otago and on the West Coast, lit the weather now .being settled the maret is again improving. The Molyneux is, ewever, at such a level, and the lake so ill, that it must be some v eeks before a nmbar of the river dredges can work to adsmtage.
