He was formerly chief dirk to|the traffic mauagsr in Wangmui, and filled the sama position in the Napier office, and was prom-itod to the position of traffic manager of the Napier section. Aftf-r the lina was put: through the Mana- ' watu Gori/e and placed under the Wanganui tovffia manager, he was promoted to tha Invercargili ssotion, wheie he has remained for some years. Mr Whitcombe is a very popular officer and up-to-date in ev*ry resp?ct. Whilo we regret the change, w« are glad to know thit Mr Piper is being sueceeied by such a capable and estimable office''.
