This morning a large number of visitors wete present from all parts of the colony, chiefly from the West C.-ast, Wellington, Wanganui and Taranaki. The Minis- , try were represented by the Premier, Sir Joseph, Ward atd Hon. G. H. Mills. The Ringarooma and Lizard bav» also arrived. The town was profusely decora ed with bunting, greenery, etc., and the streets presented a gay, animated appearand*. Shortly bet ore nine o'clock a grand rroc°sgion was formed to the Church step j, where the i religious tervice, led by the Bishop,'. was he'd, end an historical addre s • given by th Q Mayor (Mr Henry Exigent). The p'ocession included volunteers, two bands, the Mayor und : Councillors, members of other bodies, ministers, membere of Parliament and judicature, Captain Rich (Ringarooma), ' clergy, fire brigade, representatives of the Union Shipping Company, Jubilee Committee, Friundly Societies, echool t children, and the eeneral Dublin. children, and tue general puDiic. utber features of thfi procession deserving of special mention were old settlers (130 who had arrived prior to 1843) in four decorated cats, Maori representatives (including Mrs Martin, better known as JtrKa, the Grace Darling of New Zealand), and a team of ten bullocks draw-1 ing a waggon decorated with n tUe fgras. Tae procession, mai ched to the I Botanical reserve, where speeches were! delivered by Mr Seddon, Sir Joseph | Ward, Hon. Milis, MrGraham, M.H.R., and .Oolonel Pitt, M.L.C. All the! speakers referred to the great advance in the past wxsy years, and generous tributes wet e paid to the lahoursof the -.. early settlors. Afcer the procession ' the old settlers were entertained at | luncheon by the Jnbilea Committee. | At 1 p.m. the Athletic and Cycling Sports commenced at Trafalgar Park, and the bowling tournament began. The Premier, Sir Joseph Ward and the Hon. C. Mills were entertained at a banquet in the evening. During the evening the streets were crowded to witness a torchlight procession by the fire brigade, and a dieplayjof fireworks. The warships threw their searchlight q*. the surrounding hills, creating a fine effect. The bowling tournament does not commence til! to-morrow. There w*s a record attendance at the Bjferts in [the afternoon. Several minor accidents occurred to cyclists. Watson of Christchurch and Bradley of Wellington fell in the fical Jubilee ■prheel race through a tyre exploding, and bath were shaken so much as not to be able to compete further. The following were outside winners: — Cycling--Nattrass (Wellington) won the Cash Mile Jubilee Wheel Race and Cash Three Miles. Boyd (Christchurch) secured the Amateur Mile Championship, Three-mile Handicap, and ran a dead heat with Whitefield in the two miles running. Morris won the cash 100 yards and 220 yards.
