TARANAKI EDUCATION BOARD.

The Education Board wet on Wednesday. Present: Mr McAllum (chairman), Miss Heywood, Messrs Adlam, Wade, Allswortb, Kennedy, Faull. The Architect reported that the contract for Pohnkura school was completed The well at Lspperton had been cleaned out. A new sash was required and other repairs at Koru. The question of repairs at Koru was referred to Mr Adlam to report thereon I to the chairman who was given power i t'j act.

Messrs Mackay and Hignett were' jranted leave of absence. i The Chairman reported that during the recess, Mr K. W. Hil! had lodged an appeal, under the Act, against- his dismissal, but the appeal had been pronounced by the Minister as informal;. that Miss O'Brien had been appointed I temporary teacher at Bird-road; J. T. 1 Campbell, teacher at Kaimata; Missj Fanny Smith teacher and Miss L.! Finnerty pupil teacher, at Rahotu. He suggested that the payment of capitation to committees be made on the pre vious 12 months' average. The report waß adopted with the exception of the last clause, which was referred to the Finance Committee, who were requested to report on the question of the general receipts and expenditure of the Board under the new Act, a copy of their report to be forwarded to each member of the Board. The Chairman drew the attention of the Board to the conduct of Mr R; W. Hill while in the Board's office on Monday last. He stated that Mr Hill had not only ineulted, but had assaulted the Board's secretary, and as such behaviour was an insult to the Board,, he cocsidcrtd the Board would not be acting tightly unless the offender was brought to book and summarily dismissed from the sfryiee. Several members acquiesced in the chairman's remarks, and on the motion of Mr Faull, seconded by Mr Kennedy, the chairman was requested to confer with the Board's solicitor relative to taking action against Mr Hill. The Taranaki Sawmillers Association wrote asking for information re the contractor for the Stratford Infants School.—The Chairman stated that the matter had been brought before him, but he had declined to entertain such a request. After discussing the application in committee, it was decided to inform the Aesociation that the Board declines to forward a copy of any documents in its possession. Thelnglewood Committee wrote that jertain repairs asked for were for the teacher's residence at Wortly-road, which it was understood was to remain m the present 'site. —A reply is to be sent to the effect that the Board has :ime to no decision with regard to Wcrtley-road Schooi. A letter from the Ngaira Committee ehtive to repairs and the attendance )f children living in the Wanganui listrict was held over. The Tututawa Committee wrote that t was proposed to re-open school on ;he 13th inst., and allow the children a week's extra holiday at Easter. It was explained that thi- was done on iccount of irregular attendance during .he winter through wet weather and >ad roads, and the Board was asked to igree to the proposal. Mr. Allsworth pointed out that it was now open to question whether the Board or the Government should employ the Truant Inspector. The report was adopted. The resignation of Mrs. Hu'chin Bon from the Ladies SewiDg Committee was accepted.

Mr Faull's notice of motion was tabled, that the Board carry out the recommendations of a committee's report, which had been adopted, that the Tongaporutu school ground be cleaned up, etc. —Seconded by Mr Wade and carried. The Reserves Committee submitted a report, which was referred back to the committee to further inquire into the matter of school sites and reserves, with power to consult with the Board's solicitor. The Board went into committee to consider inspector's reports on schools. The Board adjourned.
