OPENING NEW BATHING HOUSE.
The iihw ! a hiug house referred to ii our last is?ua wag formally opened 01 Thursday afternoon in 'the presence fi a fair gathering of people. Mr W. A Oollis said he had been requested b; the subscribers to declare the buildinj open, and he hopad it would be appre mated by the public. Some hat thought it would clash with tbi borough scheme, but he was not of tha opinioD, as while tbe borough schemi would provide still water biths, thosi who preferred and enjoyed bathing ii the surf could use this building. Thi building would be nearly free fron debt, as, bfside tbe sum in hand fron the old building, a very libera response had been made to tbi appeal for funds. In addition to mem bers of the club there would be, hi hoped, a large number of annual sub seribers who would avail themselves o the baths. They intended also givin; visitors to tbe town for a short perioi 9. key on payment of five shillings refunding them 3s or 4s on their re turning the key when leaving tbi town. Proper rules would b8 adopter md everything done to popularise th> Duilding, which he now had muct pleasure in declaring open. Mr Ohatterton B*id he thought a word of praise was due to Mr Cjllis for ;he way he had pushed the matter and ;ollected subscriptions, thus enabling luch an admirable building to b« slaced at the disposal of tbe public. Several of thosa present than donned nthing costume, Mr A. Ohatterton >eing thfe first to leave the house and inter the water.
