Visitors from Waitara and Btratford are being catered (or in a vtry liberal manner, a train being arranged to leave Mew Plymouth for tbose places at 10.15 p.m. ; On the 26th instant (Boxing Day) tbe Kotoiti will, on leaving the Breakwater, proceed t6 Wellington via Nelson. From the 24th to the 31st instant the steamers for Wellington will leave tho Breakwater at 6 a.m. instead of at noon.

Messrs Hatrick and Company's steamers will commence a tri-weekly fait service up the Wanganui river to-day (Tuesday), the boats leavintc Wanganui on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, returning on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. These steamers will carry mails, and the coaches for Tokaanu, Taupo, and Kotorua will connect with them.
A telegram from Cheviot states that a violent shook of earthquake occurred at 2 20 a.m. on Sunday, followed by several slight tremors.

Court on Monday leonard Nathan, who was arrested in Christohurch, pleaded guilty to theft of a camera, and was remanded to the Supreme Court for sentence.
The following trains leave New Plymouth station to-day for the Breakwater, connecting with steamers mentioned be,ow, as follows: —6 a.m., Takapuna (from north) ; 11 a m., Takapuna (for south); 11 am„ Botoiti (from sonth) ; 8.20 p.m., Kotoiti (for north). A passenger car will bs attached 1 to th» goods train leaving for the Breakwater about 3 p.m. The port of Patea has been declared a port for the shipment of dairy* produce, and the buildings of tho West Coast Refrigerating Company a cool store for the purposes of the Dairy Industry Act.
A Tarsnaki settler who milks 100 cows states that last season (only eight months) he sold, off bis 400-acre farm, batter-fat to the value of £9OO, and pigs and calves brought him in £3OO additional.—Exchange. An Auckland Presß message states that . Mr. John Lawford died on Sunday evening. For 25 years he was in charge of the Auckland branch of the Bank of Australasia, but [ seven years ago retired from active work, ! and had been ill for the psst nine months. He was 73 years of age. At the Police Court on Monday before Mr. B. L. Stanford, 8 M., Wm, Sarten was charged with procuring liquor for Archibald McGiven, a prohibited person. Several witnesses were examined ar.d accused in defence stated he brought the beer to the house for himself. The migi«trate said ho had no ! doubt the offence had beei committed and Ihe imposed a fine of £lO and costs 9s, or in default three months. Accused was allowed a fortnight to pay the amount. Archibald McGiven was fined 10s and 7s costs for getting Sarten to procure the liquor; for using insulting words to Constable Stjickpole ha was also fined 255.
