The Government bas requested Lord Hopetoun to reserve tbe Kanaka Bill for the King's assent in order that Queensland may have the opportunity of appealing to the throne against the measure. Shortly after the express left Brokenhill for Adelaide a fire, supposed to have been caused by an ex-p'o-ion of gaso'ene, started in a van containing extra large consignments of luggage and mails.
