ANTARCTIC SHIP DISCOVERY.
VESSEL QUITE SOUND. PER PBKSI ASSOCIATION. Cbhistohuroh, December 9. The statements m&da, by London oorrespooden f s of colonial 'newspapers as to rumours affecting the seaworthiness 'of the Antarctic vessel Disc3very, vera brought under the notice of Captain Scott to-day. He at once pronounced them to be sensational and exaggerated in the extreme. The ship had not been at her best on the voyage out, but be was quite satisfied with her seaworthiness, and anticipated tint Rafter leaving Lyttalton there would be [no further troub'e. He would like it stated officially that he had every confidence in the v s<el,and was thoroughly satisfied with her fivm the point of view of her tea-going capacity, 1 Mr Jimes Miller, a practical shipwright at Lyttelton, al«o scouted the rumours, as being sensational. No doubt tbe vessel had leaked somewhat on the voyage out, but that was due to her being new, and built of hardwood, which would not swell po qu ckly as softer material. When the few repairs necessary have been effected, the Discovery wi'.l go out of dock as sauud and fit as any ship could be mad*.
