Wellikgton, Decembnr 6. Mr Cameron, inspector of -New Zealand proauce at Home, in his report dated Ist ber states he dots not think there is ir of Russian or Siberian butter comith arrivals of new season's colonial butter, There has been, and still is,

good inquiry for choicest colonial. Mr Cameron also reports that while under examination by a committee appointed by the : British Agricultural Depa'tment he was I »ske4 whether the New Zealand Oovern- ; raws would uphold the department in any 1 decision they might come to in fixing the i legal stanHavd for the amount of moisture in butter, and whether our Government desired i a standard of 21 per cent, or 12 per cent, fixed. He replied that while he had no I instructions from his Government as to what I its desire was he believed it would | approve of a standard being fixed nearer to j 12 than 24, and that be thought the Government would uphold tha Home Department / in any decision which would tend to honest ] trading, and Mr. Cameron says that the dis-1 missal of the case against en English firm for selling butter with excess of moisture, while legally conect, will enable anyone who purchases fine dry New Zealand butter to add water to it and work it up. This will enable him to sell at a low retail price, thereby bringing competition of cheap butter sga'nst the pure article at a high price, and also postibly hurting its reputation.
