An agitation has been started in Holland in favour o? settling Boer women and children in concentration camps in Holland. The Government believes Great Britain would not object, but htsitatcs owing'to the expense.

Colonel Dartnell's Imperial Light Horse surprised and captured twentyfour Boers at Harrismith, including Field-Cornet Lyon, an active lender, and Captain Pretorious, and took 800 cattle and 150 horses.
Lieutecapt Hammor, of the New Zealand Mountede, has sailed for England.

Colonel Copper is organising the Transvaal volunteers. Their expected strength is ten thousand, and they will ultimately supersede the constabulary. Botha, with 1800 men, is at Kliptafel, and is anxious to fight, but the men refuse. i
Lord Kitchener's despatches mention Captain Simpson, Seventh New Zaalanders, and Lieutenant Quintal, New South Wales Bushmen, as having greatly distinguished themselves during a night capture of Sp<inder berg's laager at Durhonin°pruit Lieutenant Tudor, Six'ii New Zealand Mountede, displayed great gallantry by holding a position at Calpon River for three hours with twelve men against fifty of the enemy. Lieutenant Caskey, Queenslmder, is mentionid for the' same occasion. M«jor Andrews is mentioned for handling troops well in action at Makaridrift; Captain Knight, for excellent s< rvice while commanding detached troops at Orange; Ptivate Baigent, for the brave rescue of a comrade under hea. y fire at Bastardsdrift. AH these belong to the Sixth New Z-aland Mount eda. Lieutenant Moffit, Third New Suth Wales Mounteds, is mentioned for gallant and dashing conduct at Vaal Rive , when he captnred fifteen Boers. Serjeant-Major E. Lockett, Seventh New ZesJunders, was awar<M the DiH tinguisiud Conduct Med*l for the gallant rescue of a prisoner at Losberg, having lost an arm in consequence of a wound he received on that occasion.
FIRST N.B. WALES V.O. IN INTERESTING CEREMONY. Received 5, 0.40 a m. Sydney, December 4. An interesting ceremony was witnessed to-day by a brilliant assemblage, when the presen'ation was made by the Lieutenant-Governor if the first Victoria Cross that came to New South Wales. The recipient was Captain Howie, of the Army Medical Corps. Whea the Cioss had been pinned to his breast Captain Howie crossed to two veterans who bad won the coveted distinction in the days of Lucknow and Delhi, and sho-k tbem by the hand.
Several officers received Distinguished Order decorations at tLe same time.
