In the Wellington Supreme Court Chequelle, convicted of wounding, was, on Tuesday, sentenced to live years. The Minister for Lands will pay his first visit to Westland early next month, and complete his inspection of the farming districts in the North Island in March.

A Wellington Press telegram states that authority is given for a statement that the Representation Commission, appointed to allot additional seats allowed by the Representation Act, 1900, will not assemble until Parliament meets next year. The committee appointed by the Taranaki County Council to pass accounts and open and accept tenders met on Moiday night. The ordinary accounts amounting to £si7 9s 8d were passed for payment. Tenders I tfor formation and metalling of 20 chains on I Richmond-road were received from J H Colesby and 0. J. Knuckey, the latter's' tender being accepted. The scholarship examination was commenced on Tuesday at the L'ourtenay-ntreet school, and out of 27 candidates there was only one absentee.
