Ohbistchuech, December 1 At a meeting of the, Cheviot Relief Committee, it was reported that 60 ipplication* for relief had be«n received, and applbmti stated their losses its £3OOO. It was decided to employ a builder to help to assess the damage in etch individual ease, and report, at a' meeting next Saturday. The otaes will then be dealt with on their merits; A severe shock was felt at Cheviot at 3.59 a.m., and it is reported that the shock has been more severely felt at stations north of Cheviot.

A Government telegram froa Cheviot states that since Friday, sharp cannonading and dull booming sounds have preceded andtfoliowed earth<quakes. At 3 ajn. to-day, a efcarp noise in the air prereded a series of ! light shakes. At 3.50 a very violent shook from the north was followed by a dull sound in the earth.
