The Daily News. MONDAY, DECEMBER, 1901. DAILY MAIL SERVICE.

The fact that New Plymouth is now connected by a daily mail service with the two largest and most important cities in the colony should prove very advantageous, not only to New Plymouth, but to the whole of Taranaki, From to-day it will be possible to leave New Plymontb, or any of the towns along the line, every morning and arrive in Wellington at 8.15 the tame evening, or to leave New Plymouth every evening at 8.30 and arrive in Auckland by 9 o'clock the next morning. Passengers and mails will alto arrive from Auckland every morning at 7 o'clock, and from Wellington every evening at 8.15. This is accomplished by the adoption of the steamer timetable published by us a Bhort sime back and the daily mail trains to Wellington. Under this time-table the Northern Company's Ngapuhi will leave the Breakwater every Monday, Wednesday and Friday evening, and the Union j Company's steamers every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. By this service any one having urgent business in Auckland can leave New Plymouth at 8.30 on Monday evening and be back again before busine's hours on Wednesday morning, only losing one day. This should lead to a large increase in business between Auckland and Taranaki, as the trip to Wellington cannot' be accomplished under time days, two of which must be spent in the train. In connection with the train service, it is very gratifying to notice that the dining car also starts running on the mail trains to-day. The Government is to bs congratulated on securing Mr Walter Freeman to cater for the creature comforts on these trains. Mr Freeman has had long experience on the Manawatu line, and if he caters as well for the Government as h 9 has for the company, and there is no doubt but that he will, the public will have every reason to ba satisfied. Compared with previous seasons travellers during the Christmas holidays this year should have no reason to complain of the want of facilities, as the service between Wellington and Auckland is now the most up-to-date in the colony.
