FSB PBESU ASSOCIATION* J Christchurch, November 29. At the quarterly masting of tie Chamber of Commerce tbe following resolutions were passed:—"That in the opinion of this Chamber it is desirable that stops be taken by the Government in the direction of arranging reciprocal Customs tariff concessions with tbe Australian Commonwealth and Canada;" " that a deputation wait |on Sir Joseph Ward on Tuesday to further this endthat the same deputation draw the attention of the Minister for Railways to the charges levied on goods and passengers between Christchurch and Lyttelton, which are higher than those charged on any other line in the colony" that the Minister for Marine be asked to modify the present regulations with regu-d to the adjustment of the compasses of colonial trading vessels, and the Chamber suggests that the Mercantile Marine Superintendents at each port be authorised to waive the necessity for specially swinging vessels for adjustment in cases where the compass record books kept by masters are submitted for inspection when required and are approved by such superintendents "that the Government be asked in fulfilment of a promise made ten years ago by Mr Ballance to build a safe for explosives in the vicinity of Christchurch." In regard to the Christchurch - Lyttelton line charges, Mr Laureoson, M.H.E., said users of the line paid £10,769 per annum more than the Fort Chalmers line, which, after Lyttelton, is the dearest in the colony.
