ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
A BUN a WAY HORSE. Shortly after 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Misses P. and N. Clegg, who had just driven into town, met with an experience of rather an exciting and dangerous nature. Tbey were driving inta the Egmont Mill yard when the horse backed the sulky—averylight "i-pide " —against the gate post. He then b - came startled. and, turniug round, bolted out through the gate, kicking I vigorously meanwhile. Miss N. Cleg; managed to jump clear, but her sister was not so fortunate. Tho sulky was by tbis time badly knocked about, a» 1 Miss Clegg seemed caught in th« wreckage. The horse dragged the vehicle across tho road till it (-truck the kerbing by the News office, and then veered off aloDg the rondwny till he collided with a telegraph post a", the corner. Here one of the wheel < came off, and Miss Clegg was alsi thrown clear of the trap. The hoi so then continued along Currieutree*. and into Devon-street, where he fraud himself from the sulky opposite Mr IJ. Cottier's premises, and finally pulled up at Liardet-street corner, when it was discovered that he had broken one of his legs. Miss P. Clegg was meantime removed to Mrs McCoy's dre sooaking establishment, where she was att«-ud>-d by her sisters and Mrs McCoy. It was found that tha bad been badly bruised, and very much shaken. T3.nr escape was a marvellous one, as eyewitnesses of the accident declarn they expected at any moment to sre tho young lady kicked by tho horse, which seemed to have become quite f.erzied. Had Miss Clegg bean draggrd a li'.tle further, the result must inevitably have bean herioue. The horse had subsequently to be i destroyed.
A horse attached to Mr Caitbew's gig ruade a sensational bolt through the town last evening. The animul started from the E'ls" end, aud mad« his way right along D;iron-stteot till stopped some distance beyond the Convent. No one was in the vehicle at tho time, and no damage was done tu either the horse or trap.
FEE PRHSS ASSOCIATION. Stbatfobd, November 27. A man named James McGuire was found dead in a sitting room at the Stratford Hotel last night. Tlio landlord went in at 12 o'clock to turn out the light", and found a man lying on the floor. It is presumed he died in a fit.
