The weather was fine ani warm this morning, with a cool breeza. The attendance was ten thousand. There was a poor display of cricket till the partnership between "Noble and Poidevin. Braund's leg-break seemed to paralyse the batamen. Kelly made great efforts to get him to leg, without avail Howell and Kelly scored slowly, the htter taking an hour and thre - quarters to compile his score. Trumpor was in two minds about Braund, and lost his wicket; while Hopkins, goin; oat at one, skied it to Tyldesley, in the out-field. Duff was brilliantly caught by Braund, low down, off hi 3 own bowling. Noble and Poidevin be it Braund by stepping out at him, and scored quickly. Several changes ware tried, but failed to separate the pair up to tb.9 tea adjournment. On resuming both batnnen reached the half century, within a few minutes of each o"her. Then brth hit out vigorously, Bending tho score abng rapidly. Gunn and Barnes helped theswre, the former having six no-balls in six overs, and Barnes a coupK bowlers tried to effect a severance, and Barnes ultimately b .wl*d Noble, who gave one chance. T.te partnership added 159 to the score.' Poidevin continued to play magnificently, hitting to the fence time and again. He scored thirteen in one over of Braand's. Iredale was playing freely.
