THE EARTHQUAKE TERROR.
MORE TREMORS ON FRIDAY. , PER PRESS ASSOCIATION. Wellington, November 22. ' The Secretary of the General Post Office has hna received telegrams from Cheviot as follows:—" November 21st, 8.55 p.m.—Slight shock earthquake just experienced.'" " Novemtw 22nd, 8 a.m. Three shocks of earthquake | during early morning at 4.57,5.10, and 17.15, none ot a serious nature."
As showing the strength of the first shock at Cheviot last Saturdry, the Lytidton Times mentions that two ti action engines standing in Mr Briggs' yard—one 11 tons and the other Dine tons—were shifted sideways over four flanges, the wheels catting up the ground and the engines being badly twisted. A brick chimney, 6ft. through, was very badly twisted. At f weedie's boarding house at Gore Bay, although the chimney came down through the roof of the upper storey, strange to say, the ornaments on the mantelpiece were not disturbed. '
