LAND BOARD.

The Board met on Monday. Pre«ent: The Commissioner of Crown L mds in the chair, Me?srs Heslop and Rattenbury. The following applications for transfers worn agreed to on the motion of [ Mr,Heslop, seconded by Mr RattenI bury:—W. Saogster to J. H. Henwood section 13, block 12, Waitara ; R. W. Knofflock to D. H. Knofflock, hslf interest in section 23, block 4, Huiroa. A. R. Watkin applied for leave to sub-let section 2, block 9, Ngatimaru, to Ohaß. N. Green for three years from Ist January, 1902, at a rental of £35 per annum. On the motion of Mr Ratteubury, seconded by Mr Heslop, the application was agreed to. Mr W. G. Malone submitted declaration of compliance with provisions of sub-section 3 of section 83 of the Land Act, 1892, in the application of mortgagor to transfer his interest in sublease of section 3, block 13, Fouatu, to R, McOlnggage.—Agreed to. A number of applications for permission to mortgage were sanctioned. The Commissioner reported having invited applications for section 21, block 11, Ngaire, under section 114 of the Land Act, 1892, from the adjoining owners, to close on the 13th inst. , On the motion of Mr Rattenbury, seconded by Mr Heslop, the action of the Commissioner was confirmed, and it was resolved that the arrangement be carried out; in the event of only one application being received on the above date the land be allotted to that applicant. The Commissioner reported that the following improved farm settlers were entitled to k»ve their leases issued, viz, Aaron GitP, section 100, block 10, Pouatu ; and Thomas Joyce, section 37, block 13 and section 38, block 14, Pouatu.

On the motion of Mr Hesl p, seconded by Mr Rattenbury, the Commissioner was instructed to issue the leases.

Three months' extension of time, in which to effect required improvements, was granted to A. Spalding in respect of seatiotis 10 and 11, block 4, Mimi.

The Commissioner's action in endorsing consent to a mortgage was confirmed.

The question of the disposal of section 2, block 11, Mimi, as ordinary Grown Lands, was again considered, and after discussion was deferred to next meeting. W. Billing applied for exemption from persual residence on eectior.B 11 and 16, block 7, Cape, so long as he resides on part section 13, Tataraimaka. On the motion of Mr Beslop, seconded by Mr Battenbury, the application was granted. The Ranger reported on a piece of waste land at Tawhiti-road, adjoining spction 181, Patea district, block 6, ! llawna, S.D., and on the motion of Mr Heslop, seconded by Mr Rattenbury, it was rc solved that the land be offered for sale to Mr John Mason, in terms of the Ranger's report under section 117 of the Land Act, 1892. Messrs M. and G. Cash and J, Armstrong applied for consent to a grant of timber and to tramway rights to the New Plymou'h Sash and Door Factory Company, Ltd., over sections 17, block 7, Egmont, and 147 block 6, Egmont, respectively. On the motion of Mr Heslop, seconded by Mr Rattenbury. it was resolred that the application be agreed to, subject to payment of royalty, as per resolution of the previous meeting of the Board. A statement of improvemen ,, B forwarded by H. B air was accepted as satisfactory. Mr 0. E. Bennett is to be informed that if he desires to lease the laud occupied by him he must pay the lease fee. The Ranger's report on sections 5, block 13, Waro, and 1 Pouatu, surveyed by Mr. Ling, wis laid on the table, but consideration was doferri d pending access to the seotious being provided. The TJnder-Searetary for Crown Lands advised that there was no pawer i to grant land for Patea borough endowment at the Kaikura stream, without special legislation, and, on the motion of Mr, Heslop, it was decided to advise the Patea Borough Council of the position.

I Mr. Foley asked that; the royalty j derived from seorjon 23, blcok 15, iNgatimaru, for timber taken by the i Roads Department be cr. dited to the rent of the land. Oq the motion of Mr, this was agreed to and ■ the Receiver of Lands Revenue is to be advised accordingly. An extension of time to 31st December next, in which to effVct required improvements was granted to M. Hartigan, senr., in respect to section 12, block 6, Ngatimaru. J. W. Cornwall applied to surrender sections 5 and 8, block 13, Mimi, owing to misfortune, and sskrd that it be put up again for sale weighted with the valuation for improvements. On the motion of Mr. R»ttenbury it was resolved, that under the special circumstances tie Board is willing to accepc the surrender; but cannot guarantee valuation for improvements, which is subjecb to inspection by the Rangar. G. H. Handley applied for and w»s granted leave to surrender sections 22 and 24, block 2, Upper Waitara, subject to payment of rent due on Ist July lapt.

The following local bodies submitted proposals for expenditureof" thirds" : Parihika Road Board, £52 13* 6i ; Waimate Road Board, £O4 4s; Wairoa Roid Board, £39 9s 2d • Motoroa Road Board, £5 16s Id.

On the motion of Mr. Heslop the proposa's were agreed to except in the case of the Waimate Road Board, which wns approved subject to the reservation mentioned in the Ranger's report of 17th October, 1901. The Ranger's report upon conditions of personal residence on section 10, blook 14, Cape, was read. It was resolved that a special meeting of the Bosrd be held at the Courthouse, Hawera, at 9.30 a.m., on the 21st instant, for examination of applicants for sections in the Tokaora Settlement. The Board then adjourned.
