PRESBYTERIAN ASSEMBLY.
BIBLE READING IN SOHOOLS. PEE TRESS ASSOCIATION Dohedin, November 5. The Presbyterian Assembly dealt •with reports of the committee on Bible reading in schools, and resolved, after a brief debate, to authorise the committee to collect funds to support one ■or more agents to advocate Bible leading and secure such amendments of the Education Act as will effect thei daily reading of the Bible in the public schools under provision of a timetable and conscience clause. It was further resolved that the Assembly is of opinion that it is of the utmost importance that the Bible should be introduced into our public schools, but as at present the different churches are not agreed as to the exact form in which this should be done, it resolves that tbe following committee (Revs. G. Gibb, J. Patersou, W. Hewitson, and Dr. Erwin)be appointed to confer with the bodies of other churches and endeavour to come to an understanding and formulate a platform, and if they should succeed in so doing, to take what steps they may deem best to bring it prominently before our people.
