CENTRAL SCHOOL.

OLD BOYS' RE-UNION.

A very interesting and successful gathering took place on Thursday evening at Mrs Weale's boarding-house, when there was a large gathering of " Old Boys " and present scholars of the Central School. Between 60 and 70 attended, and among thoje present were Messrs W. A. Oollis (member of the Town School Committee), and S. Hill (ox member Education Board) and others. The chair was occupied by Mr Dempsey, headmaster, and the vice-chair by Mr J. Smith, and Old Boy, Messrs Johnson and Gray, masters at the school, being also present. After the usual loyal toast had been honoured, the shairman proposed " Old Boys who had seen service in South Africa," which was drunk with gre\t enthusiasm. This was responded to by Sergeant G. Paul and Trooper Lister, who gave some interesting and amusing accounts of their experiences. The following list of toasts was then gone through: - " The Central School," proposed by Mr Collis and responded to by Mr Johnson; "Old Boys," proposed by Mr Dempsey, Messrs J. Smith, H, Bauchope, and P. White responding; "Old Boys Football Team," proposed by Master R Avery (captain of the pre-ent team) and responded to by Messrs L. Smith and W. Humphries; " Absent Old Boys," and the " Press." Tho healths of Mr Gray, who bad been largely responsible for the succes? of the gathering, and of the " Host end H ostees " were also drunk with enthusiasm. During the evening a number if snngs were rendered, which were greitly appreciated, and a most cordial gathering was brought to a closo shortly after 10 o'clock. Our report has unavoidably to be curtailed owing to pressure on oar space, but it may be mentioned that a suggestion to form ah "Old Boys Association" was warmly taken up, and such an institution will shortly take definite shape. The value of an association of this nature cannot be' oyer-estimated, affording as it does a means of enabling Old Boys to foregather occasionally, and keep up their interest in the school and preserving a feeling of good fellowship among themselves. It is also intended to make the reunion an annual affair.
