PER PRESS ASSOCIATION, Auckland, October 30, Fiji news state? that a deputation of commercial men waited on the acting assistant colonial secretary in the absence of administrator with reference to duties imposed by the Federal Tariff on goods exported by Fiji. The Warden states that it was evident it would be impossible to send maize or fruit to Sydney at a profit to the grower. With regard to Sydney, that vas their only market, as New Zealand did not require any. The possibility of a reciprocal tariff was mentioned, but it was pointed out if they forced Australia this way, New Zealand would ask similar concessions. The ad vis ibleness of opening fresh |m<irkets was urged. Mr Sutherland, in reply, slid no doubt the tariff was a serious blow to Fiji, and promised some formal protest.
