ATTEMPTED MURDER AT SHANNON.
BUIOIDE OF THE ASSAILANT.
Palubrstov Noeth, October 29. News reachel Palmers ton this morning th*t an elderly man named Georgo Hobbs, living at Shannon, shot himself through t> e heart with a revolver, after firing three abota at hia daugher, Ethel Oameroo, The latter, who is aged about twenty, waa hit on each wrist and in the abdomen. Mw was brought to Palmeriton hospital, but it is feared the wound* will be fatal. Hobbs was the proprietor ol coaches running between Foxtoa wnd Shannon, and the girl, it it supposed, was engaged to bia driver. No reason < is known for Hobbe' action.
L&m. Further particulars show that tbt young woman, who waa the victim, was the adopted daughter of Sobba. Far some time past she hai it%j. ing with a stepson of deceased, a bakar named Ooyle, at Shannon. Deoeasad was in Falmerston yesterday, and it is stated purchased a revolver then. Ha returned by the evening train to Shannon, having tea on the dining-car, when he appeared to be in his nsual api l its. It is stated a quarrel Vnflr place between the man and the fit) when they met last evening, but the shooting did not take plaae till after 7 this morning. When the man want to his stepson's house he produced a revolver and began firing at Miss Cameron, the ihots taking effect in bar arms and right hand and side. Deceased then, without hesitation, turned tbe weapon to himself and find, tb» bullet going through his heart and killing him instantly. Ethel Qmmnv is in a oritioal state.
