DUNEDIN SHOOTING CASE.
—'— PEE PBEB3 ASSOCIATION. I Dunedin, October 21. I The preliminary hearing of tbe ►■ charge against Mary Peirce, that she did attempt to murder one Jane Renwick by shooting her with a revolver, was commenced at the Pulico Oiutt to-day. The case for the prosecu f ion wax that on October 12th Mrs Gray was visiting her daughter, Mrs Ren wick, and having occasion to pass ascosed's house Bhe mistook the door, and knocked at Mrs Peirce's door. Accused opened the door an i threw a billy of scalding w ter over Mrs Gray. Mrs R»nwirk heard her mother call oat and went to her as«istance. She inquired from Mri P>arce why she had treated her mo'-her in thai way, and Mrs Pearce replied by seizing Mr« Renwick by the hair and knocking her down and assaul'ipg her. Accused afterwards went to 'he mantlepiece, took down a revolver, and placing it close to Mrs Renwick's facp, fired a. shot at her. The bullet entered her month, made a wonnd in the cheek, and emerged near the angle of the right jaw. Eviderce to th-.t effect was given by Mrs Renwick. The evidence of Lionel Pearce, aged 16 years, wss to the effect, however, tbat Mrs Gray forced her way in, that Mrs Renwick on arrival caught his mother by the collar, and the latter then caught Mrs Renwick by th« hair. After his mother let Mis Renwick go the latter caught his mother by the hair and throat, and forced her agairst tbe mantlepiece. Sh» struck his mother a heavy blow, knocking her against the wall. He then heard tbe shot, and saw the revolver in his mother's hand. The case was not concluded.
