A miner named Jam* a Garter, contracting at the Waihi mice, was acoidently killed by the collapse of ground while working in the Empire lota. | Daath was instantaneous. I Ddnedin, Ootober 18. At the icquest on the child William Grounds, killed at Hanover-street railway dossing, the evidenoe showed that the child tri«d to oro»s just as the engine was entering tbe orot>sing. The jury returned a verdict that dea'h w*e accidents, no blame being afctaoW to' anyone; but recommended the authorities to adjpt some means of preven'ing children playing about this particular spot. The Drown solicitor said that if the corporation gave parmi4"ioo the department would f mce off the crossing.
