A COMPLAINT.

TO THE EDITOR. ■Sir, —Can nothing be done to stop] the continuous sending out of unfit men [ from the Old Country, young fellows who have left good homes allured by I the golden prospects of dairy farming, I held out to them by Mr. Courtney ? Some of them would be little fitted to fight the world even in England. What a rude awakening must there be when those who have been used to city life, have to grind away, as farm labourers, from early morning to late in the evening, with but few exceptions seven days a week. But small wonder, that in a very short time, these weak ones go to the wall, often penniless and out of employ; your raaders will doubtless have met with them; I have ! If Mr. J Courtney would introduce competent bands and tradesmen only, he would earn the thanks of the colony, but this he rarely does. The worst phase of the thing is: no warning voice is uttered 1 in England to give the hopefuls both ' sides of the question, and thus what might have been an average career at : Home is utterly blasted. It is no exaggeration to say that the class of men I have mentioned are well nigh heartbroken after a few months monotonous ' toil ou the ordinary dairy farm. I | enclose my name and address and subi scribe myself.—l am, etc., One op the Last Pahti.
