SCHOOL COMMISSIONERS.
IThb Board of School Commissioners met on Friday last;. Present: Messrs Oock (chairman), Strauchon, Faull, and Wade.
The application of the Stratford Borough Council for permission to lay watßrmains through part of the Board's reserves was referred to the Minister for Education, th 9 Board hesitating to grant rights in perpetuity without the approval of the Government. Mr A, H. Moore was requested to hive the work done at Opunake which he reported as necessary, It was resolved that staps be taken to recover rent from T. Mills, and also to resume possession of the property leased by him. The following offers for leasing reserves were received:—T. M. Smith, Stratford, for section 12, block 2, Ngaire, for seven years at £7 a year, lessee to pay all rates and taxes; K. Kirkpatrick, Stratford, for section 11, block 2, Ngaire, for five years at lis per acre. Both applicants were old lessees, and drew attention to the increised rates on the land and the excessive rent asked on renewal. Their proposals were declined.
The Treasurer reported a balance in hand of £675 4s 9d. Permission was given to A. Faull to i transfer lease of section 498, New Plymouth, to Mrs J. Andrews; and 'to J. S. Young to underlet (on condition stated) sections 17 and 18, block 3, Waimate, to W. J. Dew. W. Webber is to be allowed to surrender lease of sections 2308-9-10, New Plymouth, and receive a new lease for the remainder of his term at tha yearly rent of £3 with provision for renewal and improvement?, provided he expends £4OO on permanent improvements within a year. Mr Strauchon gave.notice to move: "That future lenses granted by the Commissioners in respect of town properties (in any Boiough) shall contain a covenant to the following effect : That the lessee sha'l not erect any building on the land hereby leased without first submitting the plan of such proposed building for approval by tha Board, or its Building Committee, and obtaining the consent thereof in writing, and the lessee shall not erect any dwelling house or shop on the e*'d land of a less value than £100." Accounts were parsed and the Board rose.
