ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
FEB PRESS ASSOCIATION. Christchuhoh, October 4. At the inquest touching the death of 0. Scholfield, clerk in the Public Works Office, wbo was found drowned in the Heathcote River, a note found on deceased's body was read. It ■ was addrafaed to Mr. Usher, District Engireer, and stated tiiat deceased's accounts were straight on 31st March; ' bat over £3OO had disappaared during the Royal visit. He could not account for this. All he knew was that he did not have the money. He b*d lived cleanly and carefully, and had deuied his family and himself all amusement, sold his furniture, and paid off as much as possible and now he paid the last penul'y of overwork and strain. The jury returned a verdict of found drowned.
