(Our Own Correspondent.) Tub fishing season opened to-diy, with good fishing weather. This morning several,local men »ei,t out and returned with good catches, one enthusiast securing six speckled beauties. A rather unfortunate commercial venture came to an e id a few days back. ,when Grant, Spencer, and Co., filed their petition in bankruptcy. The firm was formed to exploit [the sawmilling trade at Whangamomona, but for some reason or another their career was not very successful. Probably they were just a little ahead <f the times. I understand that Mes rs. McOluggago are taking over tbe business, and, with their wide knowledge of the district, they should succeed if anyone oan. The spring is now fairly on us, and there seems every prosp ct of a warm dry summer. The grass is coming away nicely, and stook are daily rising in price. Several Stratford citizens attended Mr. Newton King's banquet, which seems to have been a great success. It is but right that Stratford should honour one to whom, in no small degree, her present prosperity is due. Tbe railway is being rapidly pushed ahead. The matter of railway sleepers has, I believe, been satisfactorily settled. * On Thursday night a team from the local Parliamentary Union j. urneys to Eltbam, to meet an Elthnm team in debate. The subject ie, "Should the State Control the Liquor Traffic ?"
