GARRISON BAND BALL.

The Garrison Band ball, which takes place on Thursday, 10th inst., promises to be a big success. This ia as it should be, for the Garrison Band has always come forward to assist in any public movement that has been afoot, The l ball will be held under the patronage of Lieutenant-Colonel Ellis and officers land men of the Tarantki Volunteer ' Battalion. The band desires to make (the affair as successful as possible, | financially, as in order to aid it in the forthcoming band cod test several new I instruments are urgently required. In view of this fact alone the band deserves tha hearty support of the townspeople, considering the interest the members are taking in the arrangement*, and the benefit of the contest to the town and district through bringing New Plymouth under prominent notice of the rest of the colony and attracting a large number of visitors. Several new uniforms are also required, as well i as further improvements to the bandroom recently erected, principally by the efforts cf the bandsmen themselves. The various committees hav6 arrangements well in hand for the ball, and a strong committee of ladies has charge | of the preparations for the supper, eto. Patrons may therefore rely upon one of the most enjoyable gatherings of the . season, and the Drill will, it is almost certain, be packed when the eventful | night arrives.
