PKR PBBBS ASSOCIATION. I Christchurch, September 30 A good deal of correspondence h*s been published lately with regard to preventing expectoration on the streets and decreasing the spread of tubcrcu losis. The CityJOouncil has a bye-law on the subject, bat it ha? remained a dead letter op to the present. This l evening, however, the Council instructed the bye-law 3 committee to see that placards were erected in tha streets drawing people's attention to the byelaw. The Premier has informed the Mayor Chat the Government will provide money for the city abattoirs, plans for which htve been prepared. There is opposition among other local bodies to the City Council's control. The Mayor and City Surveyors go to Wellington to-morrow evening to interview the Premier in regard to the Waimmkariri Empowering Bill, which gives the City power to take water for electric lighting and other purposes from the Waimakariri River. The Selwyn County Council opposes the 801, maintaining that it has the sole right to the use of the water in the river. The City Council has passed a motion reading regret that the Mayor had been placed in a false position by Parliament in regard to expenses in connection with tbp Royal visit. The fire brigade committee of the City Council is obtaining information as to the advisableness of using motor fire engines, and doing away with horses for hunting engines to fires.
