BAND CONTEST.
k MBKTiNO of the Executive Committee of the forthcoming band oontsnt was held on Monday evening, his Worship the Mayor presiding. The important business of fixing the prizes for the, chief events was the principle subject under discussion and eventually the folJowine <vrredecide 1 on:—For the test solpcti'in piece the first prize will be £IOO and a medul to each member of the winning bind, second prize £SO, third £25, fourth £ls, and fifth £lO. For the marching con'e-t the firat prize will be £2O, second £ls, third £lO, and fourth £5 These are higher than were awarded at the tat oontest. The usual przei will be given for solos, trios ami quartettes. Up to the present twelve b*nds have notified their intention of competing.
