The Oouccil adjourned till 8 p.m. as a mark of respect to the memory of the late Hon. Mathew Holmes.

Evening Sitting.

The Council resumed at .7.10 p.m., and passrd the Imprest Supply Bi 1 (No. 4), for £570,000, through all its stages without amendment and without discussion.

HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. Tb.7bsday, 26th Scptehbkb. -[Estimates discussion continued.] On the item " Miscellaneous entertainments, including Commissioners' salaries and expense?, also expense of invited guests from Australia and press representatives £12,153," Mr Collins moved * reduction of £IOOO. He held that the expenditure on'Oommissioners' ■Uaries was wicked eztravagar.ee. Sir Joseph Ward gave details of the vote, which included railway fares and j freights to, the' demonstration at Rotoraa £3700, steamer faces and freights £584, food, camp attendance, etc., £2571, meda's for school children < .£1157, Parliamentary reception, including lunches and dinneis £IB4B, kinematogriphe £4OO, presentation to , Duke and Duchess £686, and cost of souvenir cords £IOSO. The motion for a reduction was negatived on the voices. The remaining items of the vote in connection with the Royal visit were pawed unaltered. On the item £3BOO for expenses of Federation Commission the Premier promised that another opportunity would be afforded the House of discussing the Federation question. Kie remaining items were passed unaltered, and the whole vote of £183,188 for the Colonial Seaetaiy's Department was agreed to. Tbe House rose at 2.45 a.m. Fbidat, 27th September.
