NEW PLYMOUTH BOWLING CLUB.
The annual meeting of the New Plymouth Bowling Club took place at the Criterion Hotel on Thursday evening, a large number of members being present. Mr, G. Tisch presided. The report and bihnce-sheet were taken'as read. The report congratulated members on the continued success of the club, and recommended that debentures to the amount of £SO be redeemed by ballot, It also briefly recorded the principal events of the year. The balance-sheet showed receipts (including the previous year's balance of £56 15s 9d) as £238 7s, and expenses £l4B 6s 9.d, leaving a balance of £9O 0a 3d to carry forward. The assets and liabilities account showed a surplus of £243 lis 3d. The Chairman, in moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, congratulated the club oa its satisfactory financial position. The motion was seconded by Mr, Qray and carried, The Chairman proposed Mr Paul as ■ President. Mr, Ab. Goldwater said that he thought Mr. Paul would be rather pleased than otherwise to see Mr. Tisch elected president, and he moved in that direction.
Mr. Tisch said he would prefer to j stand down as he did not feel qualified for the office, which had been so ably filled by Mr. Paul. Mr. E. Cock, while considering Mr. Tisch in every way qualified for the office, thought it would be a proper compliment to pay Mr. Paul, who was now travelling on a bowling tour, to elect htm president in his absence. Mr. Paul was then unanimously elected president.
Messrs Tisch atd Jackson wore elected vica'presidents. The following were, after a ballot, elected on the committee: -Messrs Catjley, H. Gold water, A. D. Gray, R. Oool', Jetikinson, Mil's, «nd Fookes.
Mr. T. Wa'den Hall was elected secretary and treasurer. Mr. Cock alluded to the great trouble and pains t ken by Mr. Hall over the gre n and the club's affairs last year, and moved that a vote of' thanks ba voted to Mr Hall.—Carried unanimously.
Mr. Hall, in acknowledging the compliment,, stated that the position was mora that of general manager than secretary. Mr. Ahier was eleote 1 auditor.
The following new members were elected:—Dr. McLelland, Messrs Trebelco, W. Alexander, A. E, Sykes, A. E. Watkins, Thompson, J. W. Kelly. On the motion of Mr. Gray a vote of thanks was aooorded to the retiring officers, and to the donors of p.-izes last year. Mr. Goldwater moved a vote of thanks to the Press.
The Chairman, in seexdiog ths motion, said the Press bad done a greet deal of good in furthering bowling.—Carried with acclamation. Messrs Demppey and Paul were elected a Press committee for supplying information. The following prizes were promised: • —Mr. Paul, two guineas for rink prizes; Mr. Cook, two guineas; Mr. Tiscb, three guineas; and Mr. H. Goldwater a guinea towards prizes for nonwinners. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded the ladies for providing afternoon tea, also to the Town Band for playing at some of the matches, Mr. Ab. Goldwater advocated pro- ; viding priz s for competition by non winners, A letter was read from the secretary of the Central Council of Bowlers : of New Zealand suggesting that a handbook be issued containing views of the various greens in the colony, with officers of clubs, and containing information as to the various clubs in colony, the book to be sold at Is or Is 6d. It was considered that this would be a means of popularising bowling, [and the contents of the book would be I of much interest to players.
i .Mr. Oock moved that the club intimate, in reply, that it will take at le-st } 40 or 50copies.—Carried. | Mr. Sanderson suggested making the [ vacant ground on the south side into ja quoit pitch. i The Secretary said that this proposal had been brought up before, but the turf on that piece of ground was carefully kept foe mending the green. This concluded the general susiness, after which the members present spent a short time socially before dispersing.
