Mockensie suggested that certain portions (f the colony ought to be atocked with ! suitable game as an additional attraction for tourists. Mr. Byrnes suggested payment of subsidies for doctors in back blocks He also ' thought: better sooommodstion should be provided for tourists. Mr. Mc&uire held that acre-fevld be done in the way of advertising the many the ooldbf. The vote passed unaltered. , Miscellaneous Services—£Bl,S9B. Mr. Hutoheson moved that the item " Copies of Review of Reviews for Australasia for January, ,1901, £280," be s'ruck out. S r Joseph Ward explained that thsb issue of the' Review of Revieuu contained a special article on Mew Zealand, and 500 copies of it were sent to the _ Agent-General for distribution and 500 were distributed iu the polonies. Mr. ; Pirani condemned the expenditure as a most improper one. The Premier said the article written by the Rev. Mr. Berry. It was not inspired bjr the Government, and he was still of tiplnton that the advertisement the oolony obtained lnr the article was well worthifaa expenditure, and he asked the Howe to pan the item. In reply to Mjr. Fisher, Mr. Beddon said the money was already paid. Mr. Fither strongly r«sented payment; of .this money to Mr. W. T. S eid, a man who was a traitor to the British Empire. Mr. Seddoo add the Rev. Pr. Fit* cbett was proprietor of the Australasian edition of the Review ofßeviews. Mr. 1 Stead had nothing to do with it. Mr. Fisher oonteoded that the badness connection between Mr. Steed mm ■ Dr. Fitchett still existed.' Mr. G. W. There was too muoh of party element i in the article under discussion. Mr. G. J. Smith supported the exi cision of the item. The pro-Boer liQr ; perialist question had nothing to do , with the House, and should not have . been introduced. At 12.40 a.m., after a disoosskw T which had lasted upwards of four hours, . Mr. Hutcheeon's motion re the pay- . ment to the Review of Reviews was negatived by 37 to 19. I Mr. G. J. Smith then moved that . the item be reduced by £1 as an iodi- , cation th«t the House disapproves of , such advestisements being published in future. The motion was It st by 33 to 2S, and on Sir Joseph Ward's motion, pro-' gress was reported, and the Hoore rosi at 12.50 a.m.
