FOOTBALL.
The football tournament held in the Recreation Grounds on Thursday attracted a fair number of spectators, but not such an attendance as the management might fairly have expected, seeing that the proceeds were to benefit the grounds. This may per* haps be attributed to the weather, which wai very threatening during the morning, though the rain held off after mid-day. The Garrison Band was in attendance, and pl tyed a programme of items which were greatly appreciated.
The tournament matches were fairly well contested, and the play at time# fast, so that sime of the "old hands" at the gime who took part, seemed to get fagged sooner even than when on the field in the more serious contests. The commitree in charge of the arrangements had everything in good order, and the 'ecretaries, Messrs. H. J. Hobbi and W. Berridge, spared no pains in carrying out their duties.
