| Tax social at the Theatre Royal oo> [Thursday evening in aid of the Railway Library waa a brilliant euoeeaa, and should result in a substantial addition to the library fund. The building had been profusely decorated tor the occasion and the display of bunt' ing was not only particularly but very artistically arranged. Conspicuous amongst all the flags waa thalf of America, which was gathered together In the centre with a band and bow of crepe. The s'age was prettily furnished, and the supply of palm learn and ether greenrey considerably „ obasoed the general effect. Aa was the case at the previous gathering l*et year, a signal waa Used for-notnffng the dances, whioh were started br a railway "fcellj "" Thelarge dancers present seemed to thoroughly enjoy the capital music played by Mr D. McKinAon: Bain's orchestra, and there was an air of sociability about the whole affair which indicated thai all concerned were bent on carrying the gathering to a auooeasful issue. His Worship the Mayor opened th» proceedings, and in a brief address thanked the ladies and all who bad insisted in the arrangements for ftwhr valuable help in a good cause. During • / the evening the Mayor announced with regret that Mr. Moloney, the popular secretary ot the library bad received ' , marching orders, and was to leave for . Ohristchurch on Thursday; but he was sure the regret felt by all IHIO btaew M-v Moloney would b» toapqnS with pleasure at the fact that he waa r. ceiving well merited promotioq. He asked all present to signify their good wishes by acclamation, and this . waa dona moes heartily, Mr. Moloney bowing in acknowledgement.
