ARBITRATION AND CONCILIATION.

MB. SBDDON INTERVIEWED. PBB PBBSS ASSOCIATION. Wellington, September 23. A deputation representing tbe Federated Council of the New Zetland Builders and Contractors Association interviewed the Premier on matters affecting the building trade. The Arbitration and Conciliation Ao*; was the chief bone of contention. The deputation waa of opinion that Conciliation Boards should be done away with, and that all work should be carried out by the Arbitration Court. This Court, it was suggested, should continue to have a Supreme Court Judge as President-, bu| qtyer members should be repres«n|f}tjy(s.Qf the trade in dispute. If, howftver, it was considered that Conciliation Boards should continue to exist, the deputation urged the desirableness of amending their constitution so that a fjtipendary Magistrate should ba chairman, whilst other members should not be paid except by the parties to the dispute. Mr Seddon, in promising to consider the matter, said the Government only desired to deal equitably with all parties. He thought so far as workmen were concerned, there should be a maximum of 48 hours per week, and that any other alteration or adjustments should be made by the Court. Mr Seddon also mentioned that it was necessary to paes an Aot giving a Minister power, where no Union had been formed, to bring men into the Union.
