A DAIRY PRODUCE EXCHANGE.

Mr. John Holmes, who has just made : a tour of the dairying districts in the . Taranaki and "Wellington provinces, ' has returned to Wellington, During the progress of his visit to Taranaki , he met many dairymen and directors ; of factories under whose notice he brought the idea of their establishing dairy produce exchanges in central towns. It is Mr. Holmes's notion that one might ba set up at Hawera and anotber at Falmerston North. The reasons, he says, for this movement and its advantages to the producer are obvious. Under the existing state of things every company, Mr. Holmes points out, invites application's from those interested in the export for the purchase or consignment of the products of its factory, but unfortunately for all concerned, there is no central exohange at which sellers, buyers and shippers could meet together on the same day and deal with the output of all the factories in that particular district at one and the same time. The adoption of the plan pro posed has, continues Mr, Holmes, many advantages, chief among whioh are : 1. Larger attendance of sellers, buyers, and consignees. 2, Greater economy in the working of the business. 3. Considerable saving of time, labour and outlay to all concerned. Oae has only to look to the Mother Country to see the great benefits that have been derived by the establishment of such institutions as the Manchester Oorn Exchange, Liverpool Cotton Exchange and Cork Butter Exchange. It isto be hoped that the various companies throughout the dairying districts will seriously consider this suggestion, and by its adoption secure a wider competition and enable those interested in the export to transact the business more expeditiously and at less cost than at present exists.—N.Z. Times.
