STAR CLUB'S SOCIAL.

The a*"— * ..-uual focial held by the Star | tfootb&ll Club is always a pnpular fixture, and as the arrangements are invariably excellently carried out by the committee of ladies who have considerable experience in these matters, sucoees is assured. This was the case on Thursday evening when a large and brilliant assemblage foregitherpd at the Theatre Royal and devo'ed themto the pleasure of dancing. For this the floor had been carefully prepared, and as the music was provided by Mr D. McKinnon Bain's popular and efficient orchestra, the dancers had a most enjoyable time. Supper had been pro vide'd on a lavish scale by the ladies committee, Mosdames Dockrill, E. M. Smith, Bennett, and rlvan, assisted by Misses S. Oapel and Hilda Humphries, the table being profusely decorated by Misses Hursthouse and Maud Opel. To all these ladies, and especially to Mrs Dockrill, the greatest praise is due for their untiring efforte to ensure the enjoyment of all present. The duties of M.O. were ably carried out by Messrs E, and A. Humphries, while the indefatigable of secretary, Mr 0. B. | Lever, as usuil took infinite pains iu looking after the numerous duties tbat fell to his lot. During the evening tho cup won by Star 111 was presented to the Captain of the team, Mr W. Way. Owinsj to tho absence of the President (His Wortliip ths Mayor, Mr E. Dockrill), Mr D. Thompson, one of the vics-presi-dents, requestfld Mrs Dockrill to raakp the presentation, which that lady did in a very graceful manner, those present applauding the victors. A very pretty vocal item by Misß Murphy was much appreciated, as was also a clever exhibition of step dancing by Mr Thompson. Altogether the social may be pronounced a decided success,
