(From Our Own Correspondent). Tue annual meeting of the Horticultural Society was held last wetlc, tbe President, Mr H. Trimble, occupying tlia cluir. The report of the previous year was anything but satisfactory, there being a deficiency of about £lO, which was made up by a donation of £1 from each member of the committee. The grert drawback has been the want of a good secretary, aud as the society has never been registered, it cannot compel tho \ secretary to give a proper statement, simply re'ying on bis honesty. For the ensuing year Mr H. Trimble was elected Presidont, and Mr H. Thompson Secretary. At a meeting of tbe Town Board on ! Monday the question of accepting tenders for the street light iug came iup for discussion. It appears tbat when the tenders were opened, the lowest was 7s par week, so tbat tender was accf pt«d, but as it was moonlight evenings for the next fortnight, it was decided to let tho contract two weeks Ik uce. The successful tenderer refused to accept unless he started at otice, bo the job was let to the next lowest for 3s per week more. Now, when I state that the contract was for 12 mouths, ill must be char fo tbo dullest that if the job was started with moonlight nights, it would end with dark nights, so through the stupidity, or want of reason, of our local fathers, the ratepayers loso ,£7 16s, Hardly creditable,
