PER FBKSB ASSOCIATION. Nelson, September 4. The Nelson School of Musio mn opened to-night by the Countess of (Jounthss of Rsnfurloy in the presence of a largo audience. The oomertliall of the school is tail to be the finest in t he oolonv, and seats 500 of an audience, in addi'ion to a chorus of 200 and orchestra, etc, . Mr Cock, on behalf of the trustees, asked tbe Countess to open the scbo'l. He explained how the id.a of forming tbe sohool oiigi> nnted, and gave a history of its w«rk and the mov< ment to erect the buil ling, which altogether had cost £6OOO. The school w» 8 HffilUted with the R'yal Academy of Music, and the Royal College of Music, and its diplomas n ce-sita'ed pacing the examinations of those institutions as well as three years' study at the Nelson The Counto s congratulated those connected with the school on tbe succss achieved, and hoped to see further pres nations by generous citusans, Hir Ladyship then dtuhred the yhool open. Cheers were given in her honour. An ode, composed by Herr Lemmtr lor the oocas<on, words by Mr Joynt, of the University, was then sung. The solos and ohoruses and or* chebtrition *ere greatly admired. A conceit followed, cl-wing with the Halleluj ih Chorus. The proceedings wen a gr«nt success.
