TOWN BAND BALL.

These were many fortuitous circumstances which tended to rob the Town Band Bill of s >me of its success so fir as numbers pr sent were concerned —the prevaling epidf-mic of inflaenzi, the late sad fatalities, and lastly, the wretched wfather which prevailed all had a share in this direction. Nevertheless, the Theatre Royal had a gay and animated appearance on Wednesday night, and in spite of all the uufavourable influences, there was a remarkable mus'er of dancers and onlookers. The stage had bpen very prettily furnished and decorated by the ladies committee so as to form a drawing room, tbe comforts of which werei greatly appreciated during the evening. So far as the dancers were concerned, if they did not enjoy themselves it was fhejr own f.ult, for the floor was in excellent condition and the music, provide d by tb« Town Band Orchestra, left nothing to be desiiod. As usual at this fixture the supper was on 9, grand ard lavish scale. The tab'e hi>d been J most artistically decorated by Mrsi Paul and Mis* HurStbousp, the eentre ornament with its trailing whi e clematis being greatly admired. The Band were particularly fortunate in having the benefit of Mrs Paul's invaluable assistance, an there is no doubt that to her and the ladies associated with her on the committee MflsdiinKs Awry, Besn P. Wobster. and Miss M. Humphries) the whole success of the b.ll is due. As M.O. Mr. E. Humphries was c rtainly the right men in the right place ; in ftct, there was no derail that was not provided for !in a most satisfactory manner. Th« financial giia to the Band should be of a welcome and substantial nature, and if not as large as und»r more f tvourable circumstances it might haw it should carry with it a mark oJ public appieciatiou of the Band's good service V-and aot as an incentive to the members to continue their labour of love, !
