WAITARA NOTES.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) The publication of F. W. Leslie Reynold's opinion on the Waitara Harbour has given great satisfaction to most people here, even though they nuy not all entirely agree with his views, because it has let " day-light" into the efforts of a simll " ring " who have en- ( by all possible means to "burk" publicity. I see that our local paper gave vent to a howl on Fri- 1 day evening because the News should have had the audacity to comment on the opinions of the Engineer, and that the writer i f the siid local" screech " states that the official report of Mr] Reynolds has no 1 ; yet be°"n considered by the Waitara Harbour Board, and is therefore not available to the public!" As the Waitna Harbour Board has had the report in its possession for six months, it ba a fair questiou t< ask how long does that energetic b.Jy generally take to consider a public document. ? The same logical writer gops on te say that Mr B. A. Hignett supplied the News unofficial views of Mr Leslie Reynolds, and then this lucid educator of public opinion proceeds to comment on the so-called " unofficial" opinion?, and thereby dees precisely tl e same thing for which he has the impudence to condemn the News ! As a matter of fact, the most strenuous efforts have been made to keep these views of Mr L3Blie Reynolds fiom the public gaze because he condemned the existing; methods of the Board, and ha 1 no sympathy with the proposal to build the north wall from Waitara to Australia! It is generally conceded that the Waitara Harbour Board have once again fallen in badly, and it is hoped that the Board will profit by ths experience. The monthly meeting of the Town Board will be held on Monday evening when, amongst other business, a librarian will be appointed.
