A deputation from the North Canterbury Women Teachers' As ooiation waited on the Premier and Minißt«r for Education this morning to complain of the sdaries proposed for woman under the colonial sctle as recommended by the Teachers' S tlarie* CommiKsion. They pointed out thit the Commission had evidently taken for th«ir model the Otago schoo's in which the h ; gb<st sdaries were paid to woman and were fio:n £155 to £165, which thy regardid as the tniximnrn to wh'ch women might attain. In North O'DtQrbury, howevir, vary few would receive anything like that;, and the majoiity would be receiving £llO or less for very responsible duties. The Association contended that if women did the a* me work as men they were enti r led to thfl simn pay and th»t th«r<» wis no doubt as to the value of the work riotie by wotnon teachers. would, however, have to g> before Parliament and give evidence on petitions in support of their claims. If that was done he thought members of Parliament would not do an iajustice to women teachers of the colony. The Minister for Education advised the deputation that it would strengthen their cawe very much if they could get the evidence and support of woven in other parts of the colony.
