TOWN IMPROVEMENTS.

In every direction in New Plymouth ' progress is evident and more particularly in the matter of new buildings. In Young-s'raet quite a number of new residences of a vpry superior clas-s have been erected. A. very bandsonw villa has just been coinpl ted for Mr. VV. Hooker, at the corner of Yonnp and Weymouth-streetp. The building, which hss b<en erected Fp»cial!y for Mr. Dixon, who has taken it for h term, contains 10 compartments, and is very faithfully built aDd * beautifully finished both inside and out Al! the rooms are papered with sanitary papers, and the woodwork is either pain'ed or varnished, very handsome dados adorning several of the rooms. There is a spacious entrance hall with two large rooms on either side. The dining-room is well situated and is 13 x 20. The fireplaces are fifed with handsome mantelpieces »rjd registered grates, and the kitchen is a fin* commodious room with a range. There is a pantry and fine large bath-room with i plunge and shower batb, and the bedrooms, of which theie are three, are iarge, well lighted "and ventilated. A verandah ruus round three sides of the house, which has a very pleasant aspect. There is a convenient wash-] house and other outbuildings, The 1 builder was Mr. Lewis D. Oallaghan, the plumbing work was done by Smart j Bros., tbe painting and pvperhanging! by Mr. Bel'ringer, and the brickl*yers' i work by Mr. Haoker, all of whom have carried out their duties faithfully. Tbe J building is one of tbe most convenient and best appointed we have setn for some time.
