TIMBBR-LADBN 80H00NER ABANDONED. PER PBESS ASSCXftATIOS. Ohbistohuboh, August IS. The steamship Gulf of Ancud, which arrived late night from Nawcastl , brought to Lyttelton the captain and wew of the locally owned schooner Jessie Niccol, which bad been found by t he steamer in a waterlogged condition and abandoned after a determined attempt to tow her into port had failed. The Jessie Niccol l«ft Kaipara for Lytt«lton last Thursday with a ergo of 75,000 feet of timber. At 515 a.m. on the vessel struck on the Cape Campbell reef. She did not stick, but after she became clear of the reef it was found that the water waa rising fast in her hold. Captain Brown had the deck load thrown overboard, with the idea that if the wind remained fair the schooner would be able to make Lyttelton. A strong wind sprang up next day from westward and the vessel went over on her beam ends and became unmanageable. The steamer Gulf of Abend coming up, took thej schooner in tow, but tbe wind oomiog away strong from the southward the waterlogged vessel was burying herself in the waves, and the orew refusing to' remain longer on her were taken on board the steamer. The schooner, when abandoned was floating with a strong list to starboard, and being buoyed up by the timber in her bold may continue afloat for a long time, jit is considered improbable, from her position, that she will go ashore, The steamer Cygnet left Lyttelton this afternoon to look for the abandoned vessel.
